THE MULL SPORTIVE 2012

Come and join the Isle of Mull Cycle club on the some of the best cycling roads in the country. The Isle of Mull Cyclosportive circumnavigates the island on 87 miles of quiet roads, climbing 1700m as you pass through mile after mile of spectatularly scenic Scottish countryside.
This isn't a closed road event - it hardly needs to be. Aside from other cyclists, the main distractions will be the views and the wildlife. But this isn't just a bird watching trip. This a serious test of stamina, with a choice of routes to suit your appetite. As well as the 87 mile (140km) route, there's a 44 mile (70km) option too, with 1000m of climbing to test you.

How it went in 2011

From the inaugural 2011 organisers, Jonathan Moseley and Charlie Corbett

What a day! 114 cyclists left Tobermory at 8am on Sunday 12 June to the sound of Piper McDonald of The Black Watch, 3rd Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland. The sun shone and the wind blew gently throughout the long day but it was all worth it because we raised over £14,000 for The Tobermory Lifeboat and Help for Heroes.

The scenery was quite superb and the wildlife exceptional; most of us saw golden and sea eagles, dolphins and the occasional otter. These sightings took our minds of the challenging routes. Both routes were served by feed stations at either Glen More or Ulva Primary School or both. It was an opportunity to take on drink and food kindly provided by a team of volunteers and it really was appreciated.

Entrants came from as far as New Zealand and the USA and were aged between 69 and 16!
Throughout the day John Clayton and his team of Red Cross First Aiders kept an eye on us all and were only called into action thankfully on one occasion when a man from Renfrew came off on a sharp bend! Perhaps he had indulged too early in the goody bag that each entrant received from our numerous sponsors!

It was a very special day for all those in lycra! So much so that it will be repeated on Sunday 10 June 2012!
